The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is seeking candidates for our Value-Based Fellowship in Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine. The fellowship emphasizes advanced clinical training in spine and MSK care, achieved through collaboration with numerous departments at UPMC and work in novel, coordinated multi-disciplinary clinics within the Department of PM&R. This includes an extensive exploration of the medical literature, approaches to patient care, team development, and training in radiologic interpretation and surgical approaches and decision-making. An essential and unique component of this fellowship is a structured education in health care policy and insurance operations through the UPMC Health Plan. This is augmented by involvement in ongoing program development and research, particularly regarding spine and musculoskeletal care. Flexibility to pursue individual interests in electrodiagnosis, interventional care, or other relevant aspects of care is incorporated into the curriculum. The opportunities to work in alternative payment and delivery structures, to learn health care policy and delivery operations, and to build care teams will provide one-of-a-kind training for success in our rapidly evolving health care environment.
