The Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Fellowship is a 1 year, ACGME Accredited fellowship in Minneapolis MN with the goal of preparing the fellow for a successful career in sports medicine. The fellowship will provide ample clinical, educational, and research opportunities.
Clinically, the fellow will work with a multidisciplinary team of sports medicine professionals including physiatrists, orthopedists, emergency room physicians, pediatricians, cardiologists, physical therapists, athletic trainers, sports psychologists, sports nutritionists, strength and conditioning specialists, biomechanists, and coaches. The fellow will obtain clinical sports medicine experience working with recreational and professional athletes, performing pre-participation physical examinations, and covering multiple teams, including the Minnesota Lynx WNBA Team and US Ski Team, and mass participation sports events such as the Med City and Twin Cities marathons.
Mayo Clinic has a comprehensive research infrastructure in place that facilitates ground breaking clinical, basic science, and translational research. Ten percent of the fellow’s time will be dedicated to research with the expectation that the fellow will be able to complete one or more research projects during the course of their fellowship.
Educational opportunities abound at Mayo Clinic. The fellow will participate in a weekly, structured didactic series covering all topics in primary care sports medicine; a weekly, case based multi-disciplinary sports medicine conference; the Mayo Clinic PM&R residency anatomy, physical examination, and musculoskeletal ultrasound course; weekly diagnostic ultrasound didactics; bimonthly interventional ultrasound didactics in the procedural skills lab; journal clubs; and regional and national sports medicine conferences.
