The Internal Medicine Residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center (Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital) is recruiting a Program Director to guide its continued success. The ideal program applicant will be an experienced clinician-educator with a passion for mentorship and educational planning. They will join an experienced leadership team in guiding a 70-person residency that is based in two clinical campuses to continued success. Mercy Catholic Medical Center has a strong track record of producing clinically oriented graduates who pursue fellowship (40%), hospitalist (40%), and primary care (20%). Our residency is fully accredited and recently implements X+Y scheduling. In addition to their role as a physician-leader, the successful applicant will be expected to be clinically active as a general internist, hospitalist, or a medical subspecialist.
The residency is based at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in suburban Philadelphia. The hospital is a mission-based safety-net community teaching hospital has a 80 year history of GME. We are close academic affiliates of both Drexel University College of Medicine and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. PROGRAM DIRECTOR
PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (.6FTE)
Oversight and organization of the activities of the educational program in all institutions that participate in the program including oversight of the quality of the didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in the
Selection and supervision of faculty and other personnel at each participating
Monitoring of resident supervision at all participating
Preparation and submission of all information required and requested by the ACGME, including but not limited to the program information forms and annual resident updates and ensuring that the information submitted is accurate and complete.
Preparation and submission of accurate and complete information requested by the GMEC as part of the institutional internal review
Assuring that the program accurately and actively complies with all accreditation and institutional reporting requirements.
Preparation of goals and objectives of the program with respect to knowledge, skills, and other attributes of residents at each level of training and for each major rotation or other program assignment. Goals and objectives for the program and each rotation must clearly relate to the ACGME general Distribution of goals and objectives to residents and member of the program faculty.
Assuring that, at least annually, the educational effectiveness of the entire program, including the quality of the curriculum and the clinical rotations, are evaluated by residents and faculty in a systematic The extent to which the educational goals have been met by residents must be assessed. Written evaluations by residents should be used in this process and evaluations must be kept on file.
Planning, coordinating and implementing curriculum and evaluation for the general
Participation in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and assuring program compliance with the matching program rules and regulations.
In collaboration and participation with Associate and Assistant Program Directors and Chair of Medicine, determine the selection of candidates for residency and ranking of candidates prior to submission to the
Ensuring that each resident is formally evaluated at least on semi-annual

Monitor resident stress, including mental or emotional conditions inhibiting performance or learning and drug and/or alcohol related dysfunction.
Assure that residents and key program faculty receive appropriate education with respect to fatigue and
Monitor and enforce both program and the compliance of individual residents with the institution and accrediting body's duty hour policies. The program must have a duty hour policy in compliance with the institutional and ACGME requirements.
Monitor all moonlighting activities in accordance with institutional and accrediting body requirements.
Develop residency assignments and schedules to meet the educational goals of the program.
Notifies the DIO of any disciplinary actions taken against a resident ensuring compliance with and due process requirements as set forth in the Institutional Requirements. The DIO must be notified before any disciplinary or remedial action is
Development of action plans for correction of areas of noncompliance as identified by the internal review, RRC site visit, and/or other
Procurement of confidential written evaluations of the faculty and of the educational experiences by the residents occurs at least semi-annually. The anonymous evaluations must be shared with the respective faculty member and plans for faculty improvement
On a regular basis, as required by the RRC, monitors and reviews clinical experience, including procedure logs, of residents for volume and variety of cases.

Responsibilities (.4 FTE)
Clinical service as per applicable clinical scope and practice
Communicates directly, clearly and regularly with other physicians on clinical and Hospitalist Practice management issues so as to facilitate good patient care and efficient operations of the Practice.
Treats all Hospital and Practice employees with respect and communicates with all Practice employees in a professional manner.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Program Director is appointed by the Chief Medical Officer with the advice and consent of the Chair of the Department of Medicine, President, and the Graduate Medical Education Committee.
The Program Director reports to Chief Medical Officer.
The Program Director works cooperatively with the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), to assure compliance with institutional requirements, rules and regulations. The Program Director should actively participate in other GME activities including GMEC committees and subcommittees as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
The following are minimum qualifications for appointment as Program Director:
Current licensure to practice medicine in the State of Pennsylvania.
Active appointment in good standing at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital
Current Board certification in the appropriate specialty by an ABMS specialty board, as applicable.
Appropriate clinical, educational, and administrative experience beyond residency
The Program Director must have a minimum experience as an Associate Program Director in a large residency training program. This experience should include teaching, scholarly activity and administrative responsibilities.
Demonstration of professional standards of ethical behavior that allow the Program Director to serve as a role model
