Interventional Spine and Sports Medicine Fellowship
Location: Boulder, Colorado
Has ACGME Accreditation:
Spine West provides a 1-year fellowship in Interventional Spine and Sports Medicine for one determined candidate who has completed residency training in PM&R and meets the exceptional caliber of our practice. The main goals of the fellowship are to develop the medical competency in both spine and musculoskeletal evaluation and treatment, with an emphasis on interventional spine procedures. As a Physiatry-run practice we rely heavily on the patient encounter, utilizing a detailed history, thorough physical exam, and careful review of imaging to provide an accurate diagnosis. The fellow will develop a thorough understanding of all treatment options, from medication and physical therapy prescription to interventional injections. The majority of the fellowship will be spent mastering the skill of both fluoroscopic and sonographic injections. Fluoroscopic injections include cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and peripheral joints. Sonographic injections peripheral joints (from large to small), bursas, tendons (PRP and steroid), botox (spasticity, dystonia, migraine), and others (Trigger point, trigger finger, CTS, meralgia paresthetica).
The fellow will begin their training under the direct supervision of Fellowship-trained Attendings who have over 50 years of combined experience in interventional spine and sports medicine. As the training year progresses, the fellow will begin to build their own patient population to develop more independence in the real-world practice of our profession. Expectations are to become competent in sport and spine evaluation and treatment, and the fellow will also have the opportunity to expand their practice to areas like regenerative medicine, electrodiagnostic medicine, botox injections, or other areas of interest as available.
