Position Overview The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is seeking a full time Academic Physiatrist for the role of Vice Chair for Education. The Vice Chair for Education will oversee the development of fellowship programs, support residency program, and departmental administrative needs across hospital, clinic sites while building a robust clinical practice.
The Vice Chair for Education will assist the Chair of the Department of PM&R in the following:
Evaluate performance of course directors
Ensure that all student grades are submitted in a timely fashion
Discuss individual teaching faculty with program/course directors to identify outstanding performance as well as performance that needs to be improved
Evaluate CME programs for faculty (Grand Rounds and other teaching conferences) as well as possible outside programs
Create an active learning environment for all students
Furthermore, the Vice Chair for Education ensures effective, efficient, and cost-effective use of educational resources in order to maintain a productive environment for learning. S/he will provide direction to hold accountable, develop and evaluate staff in their performance of educational goals and objectives of the Department of PM&R. The Vice Chair for Education regularly evaluates the effectiveness of the Department's educational organization and assists the Chair of the Department of PM&R in implementing changes as necessary to promote strategic and operational effectiveness based on appropriate performance metrics. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to mentoring and teaching residents and medical students, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a record of interdisciplinary collaborations, and have the desire to be integrally involved in enhancing quality of patient care. Clinical responsibilities for this position include conducting PM&R consults at Temple University Hospital (TUH), and evaluating and treating patients in PM&R outpatient clinics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in providing outstanding clinical care, quality and service to patients and referring providers.
MD/DO and active board certification by the ABPMR
Pennsylvania state medical licensure or eligibility
Credentials that will qualify for a faculty appointment at a minimum level of Assistant Professor
Five plus years of leadership experience in a PM&R program of a major academic health care organization
Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, and networking skills
