A state of the art comprehensive and intensive training program with emphasis on outpatient Musculoskeletal and Interventional Pain Medicine. Fellows receive training in the diagnosis, conservative, and operative management of adult degenerative and traumatic conditions of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine and extremities in a highly specialized practice. The program offers extensive training with world renowned Interventional Pain Specialists who perform over 5000 procedures per year (www.killpain.com).
The outpatient ambulatory surgery center with four C Class operating rooms is fully equipped with ultrasound and fluoroscopes, dedicated to Pain Management, Orthopedics, and Neurosurgery (www.omnisurgery.com).
Fellows will spend approximately half of their time evaluating patients, and half of their time in procedures/surgeries, and will be gain expertise in completing physical examinations of the musculoskeletal system, spine, cranium, joints, and extremities. Fellows will build skills and knowledge base of the indications and techniques for performing a wide array of interventional procedures, including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar epidural and facet injections and radiofrequency (RF) lesioning, peripheral nerve blocks, cervical/thoracic/lumbar discography, spinal endoscopic and percutaneous Disc Surgery, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, trial and permanent surgical implantation of spinal cord stimulators, intrathecal pumps, and peripheral nerve stimulators. Fellows will also become proficient in newer procedures including: Osteocool, Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression (MILD), Vertebrobasilar Nerve Ablation (Intracept), and Intraspinous spacing procedures (Vertiflex). Fellows will also become proficient in the full spectrum of Regional Anesthesia treatments and protocols.
Fellows will gain exclusive training on application of the HALO Procedure™ using peripheral cranial nerve stimulation for the treatment of chronic headache (www.killmigraine.com).
Through the Cell Bionics Institute (www.cellbionics.com), fellows will have exposure in the field of Stem Cell Therapy/Regenerative Medicine focusing on spinal disc treatments. This will include training on Discseel™, Bionic Disc™, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), and Bone Marrow Concentrate (BMC).
Fellows will receive detailed training in the application of Ultrasound and Fluoroscopy, as well as interpretation of Xrays, CT Scan, and MRI.
Through the Washington Institute of Surgical Engineering (www.wisesurgery.com), fellows will have exclusive access to surgical training in a nationally recognized Bioskills cadaver lab.
Fellows will have the opportunity to be actively involved in multiple FDA approved Clinical research studies, where Dr. Nameer Haider serves as the Principal Investigator. By the end of the fellowship, the fellow will have been given opportunity to assist in development of publications for peer reviewed journals and book chapters in the field of Pain Medicine and Regenerative Medicine.
Though the clinical laboratory department fellows will gain knowledge in the application and use of Mass Spectrometry (LCMS), Immunoassay, and DNA/Genomics. Fellows will also have the opportunity to gain proficiency in the field of Addiction Medicine including the use of Suboxone, Naltrexone, and Medical Marijuana.
The fellowship provides a strong foundation in business aspects of modern medicine including billing, coding, and revenue cycle management.
As an optional part of the fellowship, there is exposure to Medical Entrepreneurship, Patent/Medical device development, and Technology/Cybersecurity (www.mice-360.com) (www.med-ally.com).
The graduating fellow will be independently proficient and confident in the application of intervention pain management techniques, have developed algorithms for the effective management of acute and chronic pain syndromes, and have a very strong foundation in the business/operational aspects of setting up a private practice or pain medicine department.
