The purpose of the one year Musculoskeletal/Spine Fellowship is to provide training in the advanced diagnosis and comprehensive management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal/spine disease. The fellow will work and learn under the guidance of the program director and its many faculty. Faculty include specialists from PM&R, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Anesthesia. The fellow will be exposed to a broad range of procedures and fluoroscopic-guided percutaneous interventions. Additionally, the fellow will have an integral role in education through interactions with residents and medical students, and by contributing to and organizing aspects of the regular didactic program, spine indications conference and cadaver lab sessions. The fellowship fosters clinical research and the fellow is expected to publish in a peer reviewed journal. Basic science research opportunities are available through interdisciplinary efforts for those interested.
Fellows will receive a Clinical Instructor faculty appointment with a stipend. Fellows must be eligible for a Kansas license and be Board Certified or Board Eligible in PM&R prior to the beginning of the Fellowship.
The Interventional Musculoskeletal and Spine fellowship at the University of Kansas provides interdisciplinary training for the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. The fellow will obtain proficiency in both fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided interventions. As a non-ACGME fellowship program, the training program is individualized and personalized for each trainee. Graduates of the program have gone on to positions in academic and private practice throughout the country.
