Shriners Hospitals for Children - Springfield is seeking a board certified pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation physician with demonstrable leadership experience to serve as the Director of Pediatric Rehabilitation Services during a time of mission growth and expansion. The Director will provide leadership to develop a spasticity management service for neuromuscular patients, sports health and medicine program, and inpatient rehabilitation program as well as help craft future vision. Responsibilities include oversight and management for clinical, education and research activities related to physical medicine and rehabilitation. Three main service areas include inpatient rehabilitation, day rehabilitation, and outpatient services. Opportunities exist to expand all services to complement the strong foundation already in place.
Shriners Hospitals for Children – Springfield is celebrating its 92nd year serving approximately 10,000 children and adolescents annually from throughout New England and eastern New York. The population served includes a wide range of orthopaedic, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal needs including normal developmental variants, sports injuries, scoliosis, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, limb deficiency, and many others. The Director will be an integral part of the leadership team and report to the hospital’s Chief of Staff. The human management skills necessary to work collaboratively with many other teams including but not limited to anesthesia, operating room, orthopaedics, neurology, motion analysis center, and rehabilitation services, will contribute to success of this position.
The Springfield Shriners Hospital is in its second year of a five-year vision to become the best at transforming the lives of children and families. Over the past year, we have experienced a 40% increase in new patient referrals, hired 3 new orthopaedic surgeons, a developmental pediatrician, and have implemented a new fracture clinic, sports health and medicine program, and a pediatric urology service. We completed a $950,000 capital campaign to initiate EOS ultra-low-dose x-ray imaging and have initiated a $1,000,000 capital campaign to build a state of the art inpatient rehabilitation program. Anticipated to open in early 2018, this will be a 20-bed facility that will be the only pediatric inpatient rehabilitation program in western Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and eastern New York State. The Director will be tasked with overseeing clinical activities and expanding the scope of services to reach more children.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a health care system with 22 locations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care, regardless of the families’ ability to pay. Within these broad service lines, many types of care are provided. For example, some locations offer reconstructive plastic surgery, treatment for craniofacial abnormalities or care for sports injuries. Care is provided until age 18, although, in some cases, it may be extended to age 21. All services are provided in a compassionate, family-centered environment.
